BPSC Selection Process 2024

The BPSC CCE exam is a multi-stage selection process. Each stage must be passed in order to progress to the next. Candidates who successfully clear the preliminary exam qualify for the main exam. Those who excel in the mains are then invited for the final interview stage. You can find a more detailed breakdown of the stages below.

  • Prelims: One objective-type paper for 150 marks.
  • Mains: Four Papers

BPSC Prelims Exam Syllabus –

The Preliminary Examination is primarily a qualifying stage designed to filter out candidates who are not serious about the exam. Successful candidates in the Prelims are then invited to appear for the BPSC Mains. Notably, the marks obtained in the Prelims do not contribute to the final merit list. Important Points:

  1. Marks of paper be considered for qualifying candidates for the mains exam.
  2. There is a negative marking of ⅓ marks in the 70th BPSC Prelims exam.
  3. BPSC Prelims is screening in nature.
  4. Candidates need to score minimum marks as decided by the commission to qualify for the mains exam.
  5. All the questions are set in English and Hindi except for those questions which are meant to test the candidate’s knowledge of English.

BPSC Mains Exam Pattern 2024

Candidates are eligible to appear for the BPSC Main Exam only if they meet the qualification criteria in the BPSC Prelims Exam and attain the required cut-off marks set by the Commission. Given the qualifying nature of the BPSC Prelims Exam, the actual scores are not significant. The BPSC Main Exam includes a qualifying paper on General Hindi. Additionally, there are General Studies Paper 1 and General Studies Paper 2, each carrying 300 marks. Candidates also take an Optional Paper they had chosen during the Application Form submission, which is also worth 300 marks. Below is the list of the 34 Optional Subjects to choose from.

Important Points:

  1. General Hindi Paper is qualifying in nature (30 % Marks required), Its marks will not be considered in the calculation of the merit list.
  2. Questions of General Studies are available in Hindi and English both.
  3. The score will be arrived at by considering the total of 900 marks in GS Paper 1, GS Paper 2 and Optional Paper.
  4. The candidates who are placed suitably in the merit are called for the interview.
  5. There is no negative marking in the descriptive question papers.
  6. Candidates need to attempt all the papers to qualify for the Interview round.
  7. This round is both scoring and qualifying in nature.

 

BPSC Mains Syllabus 2024 

The BPSC Mains will be open to candidates who pass the preliminary exam. The number of candidates chosen for the Mains will be ten times the total number of posts.

BPSC Interview

Those who pass the BPSC Main Examination will be invited to an “Interview” round. A board appointed by the Commission interviews each candidate. The main subjects covered by the interviewer are listed below.

  • A board that has a record of the applicant’s career and interests from their application form will interview that person.
  • The goal of the interview is for a board of competent and unbiased observers to assess the candidate’s fitness for a career in state services.
  • Candidates should know about current events both inside and outside of their state, as well as their academic studies, for personality interviews.
  • An interview is an intentional discussion designed to learn more about a candidate’s mental attributes and analytical skills.
