UPSC officially announced the Civil Services Mains Exam 2025 schedule on 14 July 2025, providing candidates with the exact exam plan to follow. This exam is the second stage in the selection process after the Preliminary Examination. Only those candidates who successfully cleared the Prelims conducted on 25 May 2025 are eligible to appear in the Mains. The UPSC Mains Exam 2025 is scheduled to take place on five specific dates—22, 23, 24, 30, and 31 August. Each day will have two separate examination sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Morning shift from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and afternoon shift from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. The examination will begin with the Essay paper on 22 August, followed by the General Studies papers over the next two days. Candidates will then get a short break before appearing for the language papers and optional subjects during the final weekend. There are nine papers in total for the Mains exam. Among them, two papers—Paper A (Indian Language) and Paper B (English)—are meant only for qualification. The other seven papers play a direct role in deciding the candidate’s merit.
